EMEA/EMNES participation at the Chapman Conference on Money and Finance

The Director of the Euro-Mediterranean Network for Economic Studies – EMNES, and President of the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA, Prof. Rym Ayadi, participated at the 4th Annual Chapman Conference on Money and Finance, titled Liquidity: Pricing, Management and Financial Stability.

The conference was hosted by the Argyros School of Business and Economics and took place on 6-7.09.19 at Chapman University. Prof. Ayadi participated in the session “Bank Liquidity and Capital”.

EMEA/EMNES participation at the Essex Finance Centre (EFiC) 2019 Conference in Banking and Corporate Finance

The Director of the Euro-Mediterranean Network for Economic Studies – EMNES and President of the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA, Prof. Rym Ayadi, participated at the Essex Finance Centre (EFiC) 2019 Conference in Banking and Corporate Finance, which took place in Essex, on 04-06.07.19 The objective of the Conference was to bring together leading academics, practitioners and policy-makers and give them the opportunity to present state-of-the-art research in the broad areas of banking and corporate finance. The symposium also provided a forum to build connections and future collaborations among experts. Prof. Ayadi participated at the Expert panel for “Gender diversity and inclusion in finance and business”, along with Heide Baumann, Council Member, Chatham House, Tim Carrington, Principal, Molland Expert Services, Marion Leslie, Managing Director, Refinitiv. The panel was chaired by Prof. Elisabeth Kelan, Essex Business School.

Established in 2003, the Essex Finance Centre (EFiC) produces internationally renowned finance and banking research. Its members include the 31 finance Faculty at Essex Business School – University of Essex, as well as a number of visiting research fellows from universities across the world.

EMEA/EMNES participation at the second annual regional conference of the MENA-OECD Business Advisory Board

The Director of the Euro-Mediterranean Network for Economic Studies – EMNES and President of the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA, Prof. Rym Ayadi, will participate at the second annual regional conference of the MENA-OECD Business Advisory Board (BAB), which is co-chaired by UTICA and the Spanish Confederation of Employers’ Organisation (CEOE).

EMEA/EMNES participation at NATO workshop

The Director of the Euro-Mediterranean Network for Economic Studies – EMNES and President of the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA, Prof. Rym Ayadi, participated at the Experts Workshop “Responding to Emerging Security Challenges in NATO’s Southern Neighbourhood” organised by NATO, and hosted by the Elcano Royal Institute – Brussels Office, on 23 April 2019.

Report published by EMEA partner, Centre for Banking Research at Cass Business School, shows City of London will remain an international financial hub after Brexit

A new report by Cass Business School has found that although there are some indicators that a post-Brexit London may lose some of its financial services business to EU competitors such as Paris and Frankfurt, there are clear competitive advantages to operating in the City which will be difficult to replace – at least in the short term.

Participation of EMEA/EMNES at the 2019 European Think Tank Summit

Τhe Director of the Euro-Mediterranean Network for Economic Studies – EMNES and President of the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA, Prof. Rym Ayadi, participated at the 2019 European Think Tank Summit, under the theme: “What is the role of Think Tanks in the future of Europe?”, which took place in Madrid, on 10-12 April 2019. The event was hosted by the Elcano Royal Institute, Fundación Alternativas, and the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program – University of Pennsylvania, in collaboration with the Barcelona Centre for International Affairs (CIDOB).

Prof. Ayadi chaired the session “Providing Solutions Not Sound Bites in an Age of Economic Insecurity and Inequity”, where she underlined “Facing raising inequality and social injustice in industrialised democracies amidst fueled growing populist movements, Think Tanks have a key role to bring sustainable solutions to prepare against a drastic great reversal.” Session participants were Tarmo Juristo, Head of Management Board, PRAXIS (Estonia), Grzegorz Poniatowski, Director of Fiscal Policy Studies, CASE (Poland), Nicolas Bauquet, Research Director, Institut Montaigne (France) and Jesús Ruiz-Huerta, OPEX Director, Fundación Alternativas (Spain).

Participation of Prof. Ayadi to EU-OECD Regional Seminar

The Director of the Euro-Mediterranean Network for Economic Studies – EMNES and Founding President of the Euro-Mediterranean Economists Association – EMEA, Prof. Rym Ayadi, participated to the EU-OECD Regional Seminar “Foreign investment trends and qualities in the MED region: Policies to maximise impact” which took place in Tunis on 05-06 March 2019. Prof. Ayadi explained how FDI and trade should be linked to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Mediterranean region at  the session “Monitoring the impact of FDI on sustainable development”, along with Letizia Montinari and Fares Al-Hussami, Economists, OECD, Zoé Luçon, Key Partnership and Publication Director, ANIMA Investment Network and Anna Stahl, Director of Social Dialogue Project, Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES). The objective of the session was to discuss how FDI helps MED countries progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Professor Rym Ayadi elected Chair of the Banking Stakeholders Group of the European Banking Authority

Prof. Rym Ayadi, was elected Chair of the Banking Stakeholders Group (BSG) of the European Banking Authority (EBA) at the meeting that took place at EBA Premises on 26 February 2019 in London.

The EBA’s Banking Stakeholder Group (BSG) is appointed by the EBA’s  Board of Supervisors. It is composed of 30 members appointed to represent in balanced proportions credit and investment institutions operating in the Union, their employees’ representatives as well as consumers, users of financial services, academics and representatives of SMEs. The EBA consults the BSG on the EBA’s proposals for technical standards, guidelines and recommendations concerning banking regulation.
