Professor Rym Ayadi, was nominated in November 2015 as a senior expert member of the banking panel to provide expertise to the Economic and Monetary affairs Committee (ECON) of the European Parliament. Two members of the IRCCF scientific committee, Professor Giovanni Ferri and Professor Rosa Lastra, are also members of the panel.

In view of the public hearing with the Chair of the Single Resolution Board on July 13, 2016, Professors Ayadi and Ferri have contributed with a paper on “Total Assets” versus “Risk Weighted Assets”: does it matter for MREL requirements? to the ECON members.

Professor Ayadi was invited to present the main findings of the paper, in particular, the advantages of the different metrics used in the field of banking regulation. Furthermore, the briefing will assess the potential impact of the metrics on the distribution of MREL requirements among European banks. Such an analysis will help ECON Members to better assess the need (i) to amend the current legal framework governing the calculation of MREL requirements and (ii) to align this framework with the international standards agreed upon at Financial Stability Board level.
