The statement “Financial Inclusion in a World of Geopolitical Instability: How to Re-establish the Trust Under Siege” is based on Prof. Rym Ayadi’s participation at the ninth Annual Conference of Mediterranean Central Banks, held on 1 October 2025 in Cairo, Egypt. The event was co-organised by the Central Bank of Egypt, Banco de España, OECD, the European Institute of the Mediterranean (IEMed), and the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM).
Prof. Ayadi contributed to Session III: Financial Inclusion for All, emphasizing that financial inclusion goes beyond access to services, with trust as the hidden currency underpinning equitable and resilient financial systems. Her intervention addressed the challenges posed by conflict, sanctions, digital fragility, and complex green finance mechanisms, while proposing proportionate regulation, neutral digital infrastructures, and innovative financing models to empower vulnerable groups such as women entrepreneurs, SMEs, refugees, and youth, fostering sustainable development across the Mediterranean region.
